One of the things many residents appreciate about living in the Kalamazoo–Portage area is the growing network of walking and biking trails that connect parks, neighborhoods, and natural areas.
Over the past several years, local communities have continued investing in trails that make it easier for residents to get outside, exercise, and explore the region. From paved paths perfect for biking to quieter nature trails winding through wooded areas, there are more options than ever for enjoying Southwest Michigan’s outdoors.
Projects like the Portage Creek Bicentennial Trail and improvements along sections of the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail are helping link together different parts of the community, creating routes that are both scenic and practical.
For many residents, these trails have become part of their weekly routine — whether it’s a morning walk, an afternoon bike ride, or simply a peaceful place to unwind after a busy day.
As spring approaches and the weather gradually warms up, more people will likely be heading back outside to take advantage of these spaces. If you haven’t explored some of the local trails lately, this might be a great time to rediscover them.
Sometimes the best things to do around town aren’t events or attractions — they’re simply getting outside and enjoying what’s already here. |
