Robert Haworth, a recent graduate of Portage Northern High School, returned to his alma mater as a technical assistant in the Engineering & Wood Technology program.

Inspired by his own experiences in the classroom, Robert is now helping current students develop hands-on skills and providing mentorship.

His story highlights the impact young people can have by giving back and inspiring the next generation.

By choosing to share his knowledge and passion, Robert is showing how recent graduates can make a meaningful contribution to their community and help students succeed.

Amberly Elementary Teacher Earns Grant to Enhance Literacy Skills with Technology

Amberly Elementary in Portage Public Schools was recognized in September 2025 for receiving a $3,000 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

Teacher Caitlyn Walsh plans to use the funds to incorporate technology into her classroom to support students with English as a second language and enhance literacy skills for all learners.

Walsh aims to break barriers and foster independence, confidence, and a love for reading in her students.

Described by parents and colleagues as a teacher who meets every child at their own level, Walsh's dedication to her students and innovative teaching methods have been acknowledged with this grant.

The event at the Kalamazoo County Expo Center on September 19-20, 2025 will showcase over 1,800 street rods, muscle cars, custom cars, trucks, and specialty vehicles.

There will also be manufacturer exhibits, arts & crafts, vintage parts, swap meet, live entertainment, and food.

The "Circle of Winners" will feature award-winning street rods on display, followed by an awards ceremony at the Grandstand.

Adults tickets are $20, children ages 6-12 are $6, children 5 and under are free, and family tickets are $40.

Parking is $5 per vehicle.

Seniors aged 60+, military personnel, and NSRA members can enjoy a $2 discount with proper ID.
